Zuniga tabbed goalkeeper of the year, Hornets honored

Apr. 25—HUNTSVILLE — After getting back to the postseason for the first time in five years, Huntsville saw several accolades come in after the season.

With 10 members rewarded for the season, senior goalkeeper Isauro Zuniga took home the lone superlative for the squad.

Zuniga played a pivotal role all season long in goal and was tabbed the District 16 — Goalkeeper of the Year.

The senior played in 20 games for the Hornets this season and logged 1,348 in goal. In district play, Zuniga logged 600 minutes in goal and saved 51 shots, while allowing 12 in nine games.

As Zuniga was the lone superlative, Huntsville tabbed nine other members to the All-District squads after a 4-3-3 district season.

Huntsville saw Jose M Martinez, Joseph Mejia and Kevin Rubio selected to the First-Team All-District for their work.

On the second team, the Hornets tabbed another three members. Huntsville landed Claudio Alvarenga, Anthony Bravo and Johnathan Soto.

Bravo, a sophomore, and Alvarenga, a junior, led the Hornets with four goals through district play.

Rounding out the All-District awards were Christian Garcia-Campa, Kolton Kauffman and Steven Rodriguez on the All-District Honorable Mention team.

The Hornets saw another 10 members tabbed to the All-District Academic team with Alvarenga, Connor Coffey, Jonathan Jeske, Kauffman, Mejia, Marco Palmerin, Rubio, Andrew Salmeron, Soto and Zuniga being recognized for their work on and off the field.
