Don’t look down: Ropeway with 1,200FT DROP connects two mountain villages

When residents in China got fed up with a five hour journey between two villages on opposite mountains, they came up with a novel way to cut down the journey time - by constructing a ropeway across the mountains, with a 1,200FT DROP.

Built in 1999, the rope line was built 360 metres above the Jinsha River. It was co-sponsored by 10 families in Ying'ge village, southwest China's Yunnan Province and connects to Fengjiaping village, Sichuan Province, on the opposite mountain. The journey takes 10 minutes and costs 50p.
