PAT FORDE: Ryan Day has a Michigan problem. James Franklin has a Penn State, or an Ohio State problem that's three times bigger. As you mentioned, he's lost six in a row to them. They've not beaten any ranked teams on the road, any top 10 teams on the road under James Franklin, 0 and 9.
They have a team who's good enough. They've got to go do it.
- It just seems like they're just hit the ceiling. They've had some up and down years. They've not been consistently great. But he just-- he does not have the credibility in big time games and I don't get it.
PAT FORDE: I listened to his entire press conference today. Franklin said, in so many words, my takeaway was, if we play the way we've been playing, we're good enough to win, and we will win. We don't have to go in there and all of a sudden start chucking the ball deep. We don't have to try to gin up a reverse to look for a 30-yard gain.
If we do what we have been doing, we are good enough to beat Ohio State was-- he didn't say that in those words, but that was my takeaway from this. I think he feels like-- I mean, they've got studs all over the place on defense. They lead the nation in a lot of defensive categories. They've also played a lot of terrible offenses. This is not a terrible offense they'll be playing this week.
Best thing you can say about their offense, I mean, they're very talented. But they don't turn the ball over. Drew Allar has never thrown an interception in college, 241 passes. Incredibly impressive this first year as a starter, 181 passes without an interception. And Franklin was very laudatory of him for taking the check downs, throwing the ball away, doing what you got to do to not make the big mistake. And that, I think, will be another important factor in this game.
