Guglielmo Vicario makes Tottenham feelings clear with five-word message after Man City defeat

Guglielmo Vicario has responded to Tottenham's defeat against Manchester City which ended their Champions League hopes. Following Aston Villa's 3-3 draw with Liverpool on Monday, Spurs knew they needed to beat the reigning Premier League champions to have any chance of finishing fourth.

The Lilywhites put in an excellent performance in the first half, with Micky Van de Ven at left-back and James Maddison in a free roam role, however Man City's quality proved too much with Erling Haaland combining with Kevin De Bruyne to put the visitors in front six minutes into the second period.

Son Heung-min had a golden chance to equalise following that goal but his effort was saved by Stefan Ortega with the Norway international then bagging a second in added time to seal his side's first ever league win at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Heading into the clash, Tottenham fans were very conflicted as a positive result would mean north London rivals Arsenal would be in control of the title race. However, a victory for Pep Guardiola's side would take them above the Gunners and in pole position heading into the final day of the season.

For much of the build up, suggestions Spurs would not attempt to win dominated talk, however it was always clear to Ange Postecoglou and his players that would not be the case. Despite that, the Spurs boss was far from pleased in his post-match press conference where he made his thoughts on the club's desire to win perfectly clear.

When asked if he had seen the foundations of what he wants to build, Postecoglou replied: "No, I think the last 48 hours has revealed to me that the foundations are fairly fragile mate. I just think the last 48 hours have revealed a fair bit to me. That's alright. It just means I've got to go back to the drawing board with some things.

"It's just my observations mate. I'm not going to tell you, because it's for me. I'm the one who's got to do it. You can make your own assessments of what's happened. I understand. I probably misread the situation as to what I think is important in your endeavour to become a winning team, but that's ok. That's why I'm here."

Following on from Postecoglou's sharp response, Spurs goalkeeper Vicario has now provided his on social media. Posting to Instagram, he wrote: "Our last home match of the Season. [house emoji]. Thank you for your support [white heart emoji]."

Vicario was one of many players to put in a tremendous shift with a superb save to deny Phil Foden keeping Tottenham in the game, but the 27-year-old could do little to keep out Haaland in the second half.
