Liverpool's former manager Jurgen Klopp has hailed the club's supporters after Arne Slot was confirmed as his replacement on Monday evening.

Klopp announced his intention to leave the Reds at the beginning of the year after he claimed he was running out of energy to continue. In the months that followed, Xabi Alonso was heavily linked with the job before announcing his intention to remain at Bayer Leverkusen.

The Reds then pivoted toward Slot, who has impressed as Feyenoord's boss. It had become the worst-kept secret that the 45-year-old would replace Klopp at Anfield with the Liverpool legend even leading the supporters in a Slot chant after the victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Shortly after the announcement, Klopp took to Instagram to share an image from his farewell accompanied with the caption: "I'll never walk alone again." Previously, the German head coach has sung the praises of Slot albeit he has admitted to not knowing him too well.

"I like a lot about it, if he [Slot] is the one, he wants to take the job. He is desperate. ‘Come on, let’s go for it. Excited.’" Klopp said in April. "I like the way his team play football.

"All the things I hear about him as a guy, a good guy. Some people I know, know him, I don’t know him yet. Some people tell me that he is a really good guy. I like that a lot."
