It looks to be just a matter of time before Arne Slot is confirmed as Liverpool’s new boss. Soon enough, he will have the chance to make his mark on his squad in the transfer window.

A deal for the current Feyenoord boss to succeed Jürgen Klopp is expected to be finalized soon. With just three games now remaining of the German’s tenure, Slot’s reign will begin in no time.

It’s therefore no surprise to see a number of players already being linked with a move to Anfield this summer. Many of those being touted share some sort of connection with Slot, having previously or currently played under him.

The latest names being linked are Feyenoord duo Quinten Timber and Mats Wieffer. According to HITC, Liverpool is an admirer of the pair, with Manchester United, Tottenham, Newcastle and Aston Villa also interested in the latter.

The report suggests both Timber and Wieffer have been lined up to potentially follow Slot to Anfield. Wieffer in particular has been of interest to Liverpool for some time, with the Reds said to have watched him for the last 12 months.

The 24-year-old operates as a defensive midfielder, an area Liverpool may look to bolster in order to free up Alexis Mac Allister next season. What’s more, Wieffer has already been tipped to take the world by storm by Slot.

“Mats Wieffer has made a mega leap in terms of development. I can really enjoy that,” Slot previously told Voetbal International. “So big that, if he does that again, he will become the best player in the world.

“That is of course unrealistic, for any footballer. But Mats can get even better.”

HITC has also linked Feyenoord defender Dávid Hancko with a $31m (£25m/€29m) move to Liverpool. The 26-year-old is a self-confessed Reds fan who has previously admitted to wanting a move to the Premier League.

Liverpool.com says: Signing players from your previous club isn’t always the best idea. Just look at Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

With Slot set to arrive at Liverpool soon though, the rumors with his current and former players will no doubt continue to swirl. You can’t imagine the Reds would sign three current Feyenoord players though.

Hancko certainly fits the bill as a left-footed center-back, which will likely be a priority for Liverpool this summer. A defensive midfielder could be a welcome addition as well though, and Wieffer looks to be an interesting link, especially if his ceiling is as high as Slot suggests.
