Manchester United receive triple injury boost for FA Cup final but Harry Maguire ruled out

Manchester United have received a triple fitness boost for the FA Cup final - but will remain without Harry Maguire.

The England defender suffered a leg muscle injury at the end of last month and was initially described as having a “fair chance” of recovering in time for Saturday’s game by Erik ten Hag.

However, the United boss confirmed in Thursday’s FA Cup press conference that the issue has not cleared up “as expected”.

Maguire has already been named in England’s Euro 2024 but faces a race to be fit for the summer tournament.

United, meanwhile, should have Mason Mount, Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial available for their squad to face Manchester City.

“Tomorrow is the final training session and we’ll make the final decisions, but the way I see it now it looks good,” Ten Hag said of the trio.

Neither player has enjoyed a consistent run of games for the Red Devils this season with Martial set to leave when his contract expires in the summer, following groin surgery in January.

Mount missed several months due to a calf complaint and has made only 19 appearances since his move from Chelsea last summer. Lindelof, meanwhile, last played in March.

Marcus Rashford is one of those expected to start on the bench at Wembley after missing out on a place at the Euros.

Ten Hag has backed the United forward to use the disappointment as “fuel” to succeed with club and country.

“He looks good,” said the Dutchman.

“These are the ups and downs of a career, a down can also give fuel - and that is what I see in training.

“He will be highly motivated, speak with his feet, [he’s] highly intelligent, he has had a big career... I'm sure he will get over this and get more goals.”
