Tottenham confirmed team vs Sheffield Utd - Postecoglou makes one change as Kulusevski starts

Dejan Kulusevski in action during Tottenham vs Wolves

Ange Postecoglou has made one change to his Tottenham XI to take on Sheffield United on the final day of the 2023/24 Premier League season. In action in midweek, Spurs slipped to a 2-0 defeat at home to Man City following Erling Haaland's second-half double.

The result means that a top-four finish is now off the table for Spurs, with Aston Villa securing a place in next season's Champions League as a result of Tottenham's defeat. Heading into Sunday's game at Bramall Lane, the Lilywhites can wrap up fifth place in the standings and the Europa League spot that comes with it.

One point is all Postecoglou's team need to finish fifth. However, defeat in South Yorkshire and it opens up the door for Chelsea to leapfrog their London rivals as they are currently three points behind with a better goal difference.

Following the midweek defeat against Man City, Postecoglou has brought Dejan Kulusevski into his starting XI to take on Sheffield United. Guglielmo Vicario starts in goal, with a back four comprising of Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Radu Dragusin and Micky van de Ven.

Postecoglou has switched things about in midfield with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg dropping out of his team. That means Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr and James Maddison are his midfield trio of choice to take on the Blades.

In attack, Son Heung-min starts through the middle once again with no experienced out-and-out strikers available. Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson start either side of the Tottenham captain.

Speaking ahead of the game, Postecoglou spoke about the importance of achieving all three points but also delivering a "strong performance".

"We've still got a game to go, which is really important for us," he told Tottenham's official website. "We haven’t had some great results, our performances have fluctuated, so we need a strong performance. We need to win. That will get us fifth spot, we’ll know where we finish and what competition we’re in next year. I think that’s important.

"Again, that doesn’t change anything in terms of how I feel about the work we need to do, but it is important we win, absolutely, coming off the back of our recent form. We played awfully well the other night. If we play that well again at the weekend, we’ve got a good chance of getting a result."

Here is the Tottenham team Postecoglou has selected to face Sheffield United:

Tottenham XI: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Dragusin, Van de Ven; Bentancur, Sarr, Maddison; Kulusevski, Son, Johnson.

Substitutes: Austin, Whiteman, Emerson, Hojbjerg, Skipp, Donley, Moore, Gil, Scarlett.
