LYMM Rugby Club have notified The Guinness Book of Records regarding one of their squads ahead of a cup match scheduled for next month.

The men’s third XV, entitled Lymm Eagles, are a happy band made up of youngsters starting out in senior rugby and those in the twilight of their playing careers.

As such, a forthcoming cup fixture against Wallasey’s first XV has allowed Martin Henderson, a veteran player and match organiser, to bring together a unique number of father-and-son combinations to play in this tie.

Of the 20-man squad, all are father and son - the most number of family combinations ever to don the Lymm Rugby Club shirt, and perhaps something of a national record.

“On November 2 we play Wallasey first XV in the NOWIRUL Cotton Traders Bowl competition and, at the last count, and growing, we have an entire squad of dads playing with their lads,” said Henderson.

“As a father, and I'm speaking for all my chums, it will be a big thrill to do this and it speaks volumes for the longevity of the old guys, and the ability of their boys, for us all to play together.”

It will be a proud day for all the players and families involved.“It would be great to welcome a large crowd to watch this unique occasion in the history of Lymm Rugby Club,” concluded Henderson.
